For over a year now, I've been plagued by a curious predicament. I lacked energy, was constantly thinking my allergies were atrocious because I had the worst post-nasal drip, kept gaining weight...and then I went to an ear, nose and throat doctor and was finally given an explanation. Diagnosis: acid reflux, otherwise known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD.) While I'm glad I finally have a name and plan of attack for this, I'm pretty frustrated and bummed. This is the reason why my 10K sucked balls. I have zero energy. I sleep all the time. I huff and puff just going up the stairs in my home. I started sprouting cold sores like I had the plague, t0o. (Too much acid in the body makes Tishy a very blistered girl apparently.) But the most annoying part of this whole reflux situation? The mucus. Oh, the mucus. I feel like I'm constantly being choked; almost as if my collar is too tight or something. It's a terrible nagging feeling. I'm a health gangsta, though! I plan on beating the crap out of this predicament. I have eliminated the trigger foods and drinks from my diet, which means no alcohol, no onions, no eggs. I'm taking probiotics and enzymes, drinking aloe vera juice, and going as alkaline as I possibly can. A friend of mine, Emma Goodman Desilva, is a nutritional health coach who hipped me to the alkaline products she currently uses and recommends to her clients. I've just started using the Greens product, which tastes pretty darn good, considering it's a beautifully weird dark-green color. My doc says a lot of people band-aid their GI issues with anti-acids, so I'm trying my hardest to stay away from that option. I'm two weeks in. Hopefully I can report back to you in a couple weeks that I have my old, wonderful energy back—that I no longer feel like I'm choking and I can run to my heart's delight. Fingers crossed! Have you ever experienced acid reflux? What worked for you? —Tish
